Rainbow Loom Bracelets and Crafts

IMG_0953

My girls have had so much fun with their Rainbow Looms this summer. This has to be the best kids craft invention ever! Colorful rubber bands can make different patterned bracelets, rings and even a mini handbag. You can get the kit and extra refill bands at Michael’s. Best $14.99 we’ve ever spent. There are endless projects and patterns online. They got it to make bracelets and rings and now they are using it to make saddles and bridles for the Breyer horse (Taylor’s newest discovery). You don’t want to go horse shopping with Taylor. She wants them all so she has to put a lot of thought into which one to spend her money on. That was the longest shopping trip ever. But her first horse is very happy with all of his colorful rubber band accessories.

Turkey Treat Pot

Last year the girls made these adorable little turkey pots to give away as Thanksgiving gifts. We found it on the Michael’s website. They were really easy to make. Fill them with candy or use them as a place card.

Supplies:
DecoArt Patio Paint – Pinecone Brown
DecoArt Patio Paint - Tuscan Red
3/4″ flat brush
Foam sheets: red, yellow, orange, brown, purple (we did assorted tail colors)
Wiggle eyes
Styrofoam ball
Hot glue gun
3″ terra cotta pot

1. Trace and transfer patterns on foam sheets and cut out shapes with scissors.
2. Paint pot red.
3. Paint Styrofoam ball brown.
4. Push Styrofoam ball down over rim of pot to form head.
5. Position and adhere eyes, beak, waddle, wings, feet, and tail feathers with glue gun.

To use turkey pot for treat container, position plastic or paper cup inside pot before filling with candies, nuts, or other food.
To use turkey pot as name card holder, position one wing up and adhere paper sign with person’s name on wing tip or write name on front of pot.

Pony Bead Suncatchers

Pony Beads have been a lifesaver this summer. When the girls get bored they can design something with pony beads. First they made bowls. The sun catchers are my favorite though.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line the baking pan or oven safe dish that you wish to use with foil. Place beads in the design that you choose. You can try to leave a hole for the string but some of them still melted together. For those I used a small screwdriver to poke a hole. Bake for 20 minutes. (the smell is strong so turn on your vent-a-hood, open your windows and doors, etc…) After it cools, remove it from the pan and use string to hang.I forgot to take pictures of the entire process but if you want to see the before, during and after of the bowls you can see that here.

Megan made one shaped like a purse.

and one in Johnny’s favorite colors.

The crazy bird that I’ve told you about before didn’t care for me hanging sun catchers in his tree and kept dive bombing me. But his trees look so fancy now.
